What did he say?

"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."

"You shall not put the Lord your God to the test."

"Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only."

"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

"Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

"Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

"If you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift."

"Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way."

"If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell."

"Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes', and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one."

"Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."

"Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven."

"Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."

"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them."

"When you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret."

"When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen."

"And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."

"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen."

"Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

"Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear."

"Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enought trouble of its own."

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged...first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

"Do not give to dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs."

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."

"Do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."

"Enter through the narrow gate...small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

"Watch out for false prophets...by their fruit you will recognize them."

"Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."

"Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."

"Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons."

"Be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves."

"What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs."

"Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul."

"Be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell."

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and atake up his cross and follow me."

"If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell."

"If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.' If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector."

"Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many."

"Keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come."

"Take and eat; this is my body."

"Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."

"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

"Do not be afraid."

"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very of the age."

What price have I been paying by not following the commands of Christ? I am tired, lethargic, full of doubt and fear, unsure of who I am, where I am to be, what I'm supposed to be doing with this life...I don't know what I'm so afraid of. What if I follow Christ wholeheartedly? I will be changed, and for the better. But why is that so hard to accept? Because I will lose myself in the process. Is that so bad? What does that mean anyway? By losing myself, am I not actually becoming what I was always meant to be?
